Finalist Young Designer

The following outlines my initial concept for a new yacht, with what I believe to be an exciting blend of old and new ideas.

The basic concept captures the elegance and class of 1930s fantail motoryachts, but with a sleek and modern twist, outdoor deck space and long, timeless lines.

Outdoor space
Classic proportions and expansive open and covered deck spaces define her outdoor space. Dining and formal/informal gatherings are possible on the main and bridge decks. A grand outdoor staircase leads to the sundeck lounge area and Jacuzzi. The solid teak-covered outdoor areas allow owner and guests to maintain close contact to the surrounding sea at all times.

Water recreation
The forward tender garage contains a large custom launch, rib and three jet-skis as well as numerous water toys. The aft beach club/dock allows owner and guests to take full advantage of all water recreation opportunities. A large dive room supports underwater activities, with an emergency hyperbaric chamber located in the engine room to provide ultimate peace of mind.

Indoor space
Exterior decks flow seamlessly into intimate indoor spaces. The main saloon’s floor-to-ceiling windows continue the relationship with the sea. The grand staircase leads to the staterooms, which are designed for privacy yet still allow ample views of the sea.

Family space
The owner’s area incorporates a deck club for intimate family time separated from the guest areas. Lounge chairs and games table allow for quality time with spectacular views.

Efficient design
The long and narrow hull form combined with extremely efficient MTU diesel/electric-powered Azipods create a very environmentally friendly motor yacht. The propulsion package is both extremely quiet and efficient, allowing for clean operation and swift passages.

Interior design
The interior is a modern yet warm mix of neutral woods and interesting textiles. The joinery is composed of waxed white oak and Italian Indian rosewood. The design incorporates many long horizontal planking details reminiscent of hull planking on class IC yachts. Textiles incorporate interesting textures and appealing colors. Satin silver accents the wood and parchment is used extensively as wall covering. The open-treaded grand staircase has a central waterfall over aged copper overall. The interior is relaxed, warm, modern and – most importantly – in perfect harmony with the exterior design.
